2 pertussis cases in Mati City recovered – LGU

The two confirmed cases of pertussis or whooping cough in Mati City have recovered, the city government said.

Citing the report of the City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU), the local government said the two cases were both female and were one and two months old when afflicted by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis.

One is from Barangay Don Martin Marundan while the other one is from Dawan.

Both were unvaccinated and admitted to the hospital and were declared recovered by the health authorities.

The city government said that three more patients are under observation for showing symptoms of pertussis and are now awaiting result of their confirmatory tests.

The three are being monitored by the City Health Office.

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
