500 Bilibid inmates transferred to Zamboanga City prison

Five hundred inmates have been transferred to the the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said on Monday (April 22).

“Continuous ang ating pag transfer ng PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) first as part of our decongestion, second to augment the workforce needs of penal farm in agricultural project and third as part of our preparation for the closure of NBP by 2028,” he said.

Catapang said the 350-hectare NBP reservation is set to become a government center, open park and mixed use venue.

The director general said the 500 Bilibid inmates were transferred to the Zamboanga prison on Sunday (April 21).

With the latest prisoner move, Catapang said there are 3,993 Bilibid inmates who have been transferred to other BuCor prisons since January.

Of this number, he noted 999 were transferred to Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa, Palawan; 1,000 to Davao Prison and Penal Farm; 1,000 to SRPPF; and 448 Leyte Prison and Penal Farm.
