Atendido touts GenSan economic gains

General Santos City Councilor Richard Atendido on Tuesday highlighted the city’s surging economy under the administration of Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao.

During his privilege hour, the chairman of the committee on finance reported that in 2023, the city has collected P4.4 billion in local revenues, an increase from the P4.046 billion collection in the previous year.

Atendido said with the continued support and confidence of the business community, the city has provided more than 186,000 employment to its residents in 2023 alone.

“That’s more than double in number than the previous year,” the official said. Atendido also cited the city’s latest competitive index, where it was ranked No. 11 among the highly urbanized cities in the Philippines and was considered as one of the best cities to live in Southeast Asia, based on the annual Economics Global Cities Index 2024 by the Oxford Economic.

“This proves that our city has been consistent in delivering quality service for our constituents through sound policies and decisions in relation to our economy,” he added.
