Banga LGU steps up campaign vs STL operations

The municipal government of Banga in South Cotabato on Tuesday has intensified its campaign to regulate the operation of the Small Town Lottery (STL) in their community.

Despite the previous reminder from Provincial Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr., personnel from the municipal government have dismantled and confiscated STL stalls and loaded them into backhoes and pick-up trucks.

Last week, around 100 STL outlets were ordered closed by Mayor Evangeline Palencia after the Sangguniang Bayan passed an ordinance which limited the establishment of STL outlets in the entire municipality.

Tamayo reminded local chief executives in the province that STL operations are backed by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), which is a national government agency.

He said the operation of STL is pursuant to the national law and only the PCSO has the authority to suspend, cancel or revoke their franchise.
