Budget chief hopes BARMM to use properly P5B to rebuild communities

Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman has expressed hope that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) could properly utilize the P5 billion that the national government is releasing for the rehabilitation of conflict-affected communities in the region.

The budget chief said Wednesday, May 24, that she has approved the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) for the P5 billion for the Special Development Fund of BARMM.

“Umaasa po kami na magagamit ng wasto ang pondong ito para matugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga komunidad sa BARMM. We hope that BARMM takes advantage of this funding by fully utilizing it to help those in need, and to improve areas that need further development,” Pangandaman said.

The five-month Marawi siege from May to October 2017 was the most recent conflict that had erupted in BARMM. The government needs at least P49.8 billion to rehabilitate Marawi.
