Coffee festival to be launched in Cagayan de Oro in October – official

The Cagayan de Oro Hotels and Restaurants Association (COHARA) is set to launch its first Mindanao Coffee Festival in October.

COHARA vice president Eileen San Juan said with 230 coffee shops servicing Cagayan de Oro City, their group decided to include the coffee festival in its Kumbira Food Festival.

“We need to support our coffee shops with our local coffee. So, we want to bring in the farmers, our producers and our coffee shop owners under one big event that will happen this October. And that will be a very important feature of Kumbira Food Festival 2023,” she said.

The recent Hala Kumbira Food Festival, one of several core events of the annual Higalaay Festival of Cagayan de Oro City, served as a prelude to the Kumbira Food Festival scheduled on October 11 to 13 at the Limketkai Mall Atrium.

Explaining their decision to hold the actual Kumbira in October, San Juan said it came due to the change in the school calendar schedule.

“We all know that our students, we always have them during our Kumbira. And due to the change in school calendar schedule, we want to make sure that the students are with us. Hence, the three-day Kumbira in October which will include our students, our culinary professionals and our partners in the barangays. So, this will be a big event,” San Juan said, adding that Kumbira is now on its 27th year.
