Cong. Steve Chiongbian Solon and Team Champion Peace Through Coffee Farming Initiative

Cong. Steve Chiongbian Solon, alongside Chief of Staff Engr. Gerald G. Faciol, has extended unwavering support to former combatants of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as they embark on a journey of peace and reconciliation in conflict-affected regions. Their commitment was underscored during the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Asnalaf Coffee Farmers Association in Barangay Lumasal, Maasim, Sarangani Province, held on March 7, 2024.

The event served as a beacon of hope and transformation, highlighting the remarkable transition of ex-combatants from armed struggle to peaceful civilian life. In a significant shift, many of these individuals have embraced the venture of coffee farming, symbolizing a departure from conflict towards sustainable livelihoods and community development.

The support extended by Congressman Solon and his team, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), underscores a collective effort to empower former combatants and facilitate their integration into mainstream society. By investing in agriculture and fostering economic opportunities, they aim to build a foundation for lasting peace and prosperity in conflict-affected areas.
