Cong. Steve Solon Presents Key Sarangani Holiday Bills Before Senate Committee

Cong. Steve Chiongbian Solon made a significant appearance before the Senate Committee on Local Government, chaired by Senator JV Ejercito, to advocate for the Sarangani Day Bill (HB 5487) and the Sarangani Indigenous Peoples (IP) Day Bill (HB 6158). These legislative measures, recently passed by the House of Representatives on their Third and Final Reading, are now poised for Senate review before potentially becoming laws with President Marcos’ approval.

The Sarangani Day Bill aims to establish November 28th as a special non-working holiday in Sarangani Province, commemorating its founding anniversary since its establishment in 1992. Meanwhile, the Sarangani IP Day Bill seeks to designate October 27th as a special non-working holiday across the province, honoring and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of its indigenous peoples.

Congressman Solon emphasized the importance of these bills in recognizing and preserving the history and traditions of Sarangani’s diverse communities. “To our beloved IPs and to all Sarangans, these are dedicated to you,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to fostering a deeper appreciation for the province’s identity and cultural legacy.
