Councilor Acharon supports P100 wage hike for GenSan workers

A bill seeking an additional P100 in the daily minimum wage of workers in the private sector has gained support in the General Santos City Council.

City Councilor Edgar Acharon, the SP committee on economic enterprises, on Monday filed a resolution strongly supporting Senate Bill No. 2534 or “An Act Providing for a 100 Pesos Daily Minimum Wage Increase for Employees and Workers in the Private Sector.”

The current daily minimum wage for workers in the Soccsksargen Region is at P403 in the non-agriculture sector, while those in the agriculture and service retail sectors is P382, based on Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Order No. RB XII-23.

Earlier this week, the Senate approved on second reading the proposed measure that could be the first that a legislated pay hike would be implemented nationwide, since 1989.
