DA probes illegal sale of farm inputs in Soccsksargen

The Department of Agriculture-Soccsksargen is looking into the alleged illegal sale of rice seeds, fertilizers, and other farm inputs that are part of the government’s seed distribution program.

DA 12 Regional Executive Director (RED) Roberto “Toto” Perales said he received complaints from farmers who were charged P1,000 for the said inputs. He said they are already coordinating with other concerned government agencies to track the perpetrators of the modus.

“Actually narinig ko, bago makakuha ang mga farmer ng tulong na ibinibigay natin sa mga organization ay ipinagbabayad sila ng P1,000, which is very wrong. Hindi natin ina-allow yun, paiimbestigahan po natin yan,” Perales said.

The official stressed that the seeds are given free to qualified recipients under the seed component being implemented by the National Rice Program in tandem with LGUs. and farmer’s cooperatives and associations.

Perales also urged the public to immediately report to the DA and their local government units anyone illegally selling these seeds.
