Dalipe’s admin observes National Flag Day in Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City, under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe, joined the nation in the observace of National Flag Day on Tuesday, May 28.

The National Flag Day was mandated under Republic Act No. 8491, the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines and HB 5224.

During this day, the country remembered the first hoisting of the Philippine flag after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898.

Filipino revolutionaries led by General Emilio Aguinaldo defeated Spanish troops to recapture the province of Cavite.

Former President Fidel Ramos, through Executive Order No. 173, further extended the commemoration of the National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12, Independence Day.

During the period, Filipinos are encouraged to display the Philippine flag in their residences.

All government offices and agencies, businesses, and educational institutions are also mandated to display the national flag as an encouragement for residents to exercise patriotism and love for country.
