Davao City Council opposes Acosta’s termination from MinDA

The Davao City Council has expressed opposition on the termination of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Maria Belen “Mabel” Acosta.

The City Council’s passage of a resolution against Acosta’s removal came after Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte initially slammed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to replace her with Leo Tereso Magno.

The city government said the Council acknowledged Acosta’s consisent enforcement of the MinDA law in safeguarding peace and development in Mindanao.

But it noted that the Marcos administration terminated the former MinDA chief “without prior notice and with the absence of any pending civil, criminal, or administrative case tantamount to a complete lack of cause for removal.

“The City Council then passed a resolution in support of Duterte’s statement with emphasis on his call to stand in solidarity with Secretary Acosta and her pursuit of truth,” the city government said.
