The Department of Education (DepEd) – Region 12 has lauded Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) for its support to enhance basic education in its host provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat.

The education department conveyed its appreciation to the mining company during DepEd’s Regional Stakeholders Convergence 2024 held at Koronadal City on June 27.

During the event, SMI External Affairs and Corporate Communications Manager Roy Antonio also led the turnover of various hygiene products such as bath soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and detergent soap for the region’s athletes who will compete in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City next month.

DepEd’s Programs and Services Section head Ismael Ngitngit, Jr. received the donation from SMI.

“Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo SMI. Thank you very much for answering our call for partnership and convergence with the private sector,” Ngitngit said.

Under its annual Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), SMI partnered with the DepEd Region 12 in facilitating several projects in the region related to education.

These projects include the construction of school buildings, wage subsidies for teachers, and scholarship programs. For School Year 2023-2024, a total of 1,354 underprivileged but deserving students have received scholarship grants from SMI.
