DOST-Phivolcs conducting active fault research in Digos City – Mayor Cagas

Digos City Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas has observed the personnel of the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-Phivolcs) in conducting active fault research in the city.

Cagas, along with the disaster response departments, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Engineering Office, City General Services Office, and City Planning Team, visited the trenching area and observed the program to understand better the fault line that affects Digos Thursday, January 25.

The city government, quoting Phivolcs Specialist Jeff Perez, said the evidence of a fault line, known as fault scrap or ground displacement, has been confirmed along Aplaya, spanning from Poblacion Kiagot Eco Park, to Goma, covering a total distance of more than 17 kilometers.

With the presence of a fault line in the city, Cagas urged the residents to be vigilant and prepared for a potential disaster.

He also underscored the need to disseminate helpful informatin and safety guidelines to the residents of Digos.

The research on Digos City fault line will end on February 1. The result of the study will be helpful in formulating programs related to disaster risk reduction and management, the city government said.
