Epekto ng El Niño! Evangelista admin may declare state of calamity in Kidapawan City

The Kidapawan City government, under the leadership of Mayor Jose Paolo M. Evangelista, may declare a state of calamity if damage to agriculture continues to increase due to the effect of El Niño.

“Posibleng magdeklara ng State of Calamity ang Pamahalaang Lokal sakaling mas lalawak pa ang kasiraang idudulot ng El Niño sa mga sakahan sa lungsod,” the city government said.

Citing the latest El Niño Monitoring Report of the Office of the City Agriculturist (OCA), it said that as of April 18, the damage to agriculture has reached around P17.8 million.

Some 162 hectares of farmland in the city have been destroyed due to El Niño.

Meanwhile, 22 farmers affected by the drought have received assistance from the local government. They were among the 178 farmers initially identified to get aid.

The city government said OCA continues to conduct crop assessment damage and help secure insurance for the registered farmers under the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also continues to conduct water rationing to the farmers in 22 barangays.
