Ex-Mayor Rivera: Family business and governance are two separate things

Former General Santos City Mayor Ronnel Rivera said managing family business and running the government are two separate things.

During a recent public engagement, the former mayor stressed that he has divested himself of his interest from his family’s business during his term as the city mayor, saying that the latter was his full-time job.

He claimed that he came only to rescue the family’s business after his nine year term ended in 2022.

“We have to separate things. When I became a mayor I really divested myself sa personal business, because I want to focus sa governance. I came only because mo-rescue ko, mo-tabang ko, because this is a family,” Rivera said.

“Ang problema dili gikan sa akoa, of course I have to solve that, as a family,” he added.

Rivera made the comment after City Administrator Franklin Gacal called on the former mayor to just focus on resolving the issues hounding his family’s business rather than getting involved in politics.

Rivera is rumored to be considering a mayoral comeback in the 2025 elections.

“Pero itong governance, this is different story. Kini siya ang future sa atong siyudad. Lahi tong future sa among negosyo, lahi pud tong future sa atong siyudad,” Rivera said.
