First mall compliant! Robinsons Mall GenSan establishes ‘halal lanes’

The city government of General Santos and Robinsons Mall of Gensan have launched the “halal lanes” for the halal conscious consumers.

With the unveiling of the halal lanes at its supermarket Monday, June 3, Robinsons Mall was the first mall compliant to the City’s Halal Ordinance No.7, series of 2018 authored by City Councilors Rosalita T. Nunez, Alberto Pacquiao, and Jose Orlando Acharon.

“The mall endeavored to provide halal paying counter, display area, weighing scale, pushcarts, and baskets to cater to halal conscious consumers,” the local government said.

In line with the Ordinance, Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera has signed Executive Order No. 23, series of 2019 on the composition of the Halal Task Force to monitor compliance.

City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO) and CMO- Indigenous Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD) are the implementing offices committed to implement the program in making the City as Halal hub in the Philippines (Halal-Friendly City).

“The city recognizes its role as the premier destination of neighboring Muslim communities. The city also envisions to be the destination of foreign tourists from Muslim countries,” said CEMCDO head Leonard C. Flores.

According to the city government, the Ordinance aims to establish a harmonious relationship between Christians and Muslims in Gensan by promoting, protecting and respecting the Muslims religious belief, customs, traditions and ensuring that the food they consume is spiritually pure and clean.
