Gacal tells Rivera: Forget politics, resolve fishing firm woes instead

General Santos City Administrator Franklin Gacal called on former City Mayor Ronnel Rivera to just focus on resolving the issues hounding his family’s business instead of getting involved in politics.

Rivera is rumored to be considering a possible mayoral bid in the 2025 elections.

Gacal said RD Fishing Industry, Inc. contributes so much to the economy of the city and its downfall will affect thounsand of workers.

“As a city official, I would advise RCR to train his efforts and energy in their business empire. Doing so would be his best contribution to GenSan than indulging in politics,” Gacal told Politiko.

On Tuesday, former employees of the fishing firm went to the General Santos city council to seek assistance in the immediate release of their benefits. The group sought an audience with Councilor Jane Rivera to mediate in addressing their concerns with her family’s fishing company. They claimed that the company was unable to comply with their settlement agreement before the National Labor Relations Commission.

“RCR should focus on their business and forget politics,” Gacal added.
