GenSan Councilor Rivera joins fight against cervical cancer

General Santos City Councilor Jane Rivera stands in support of all efforts to increase awareness and prevention of cervical health conditions.

The lady councilor passed a resolution calling for a concerted efforts of the Department of Health (DOH) and the city government of General Santos to help combat human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and protect Filipino women from eventually developing cervical cancer.

Rivera also urged preteens and mothers to get regular cervical cancer screening tests.

By virtue of Proclamation No. 368, signed by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2003, the month of May of every year has been declared as the Cervical Cancer Consciousness Month to curb the incidence of cervical cancer in the Philippines.
