GenSan Councilor Rivera to DepEd: Streamline textbook procurement

In a bid to advance quality education in the city, General Santos City Councilor Jane Rivera has echoed the call for the Department of Education (DepEd) to streamline its textbook procurement.

Rivera, the former Sanggunian committee on education chairperson, made the call after the Second Congressional Commission on Education’s findings revealed that at least one out of five Grade 5 learners shared textbooks with another student or more.

The EDCOM report also pointed out that insufficient development time and a prolonged review process are among the bottlenecks of textbook procurement.

According to Rivera, the city of General Santos, having a significant number of basic education learners, foresees the need to support this call since it could impact the upbringing and development of the students.
