GenSan dispels insinuations of politicizing El Niño aid

The city government of General Santos on Saturday said it has nothing to do in the selection of intended beneficiaries of the national government’s aid to farmers and fishermen hit by the onslaught of the El Niño phenomenon in the SOCCSKSARGEN.

City Administrator Franklin Gacal took to social media to dispel insinuations posted on Facebook that the program was being politicized.

“Almost 700k ang population ng Gensan. Hindi kaya ng national government na lahat bigyan ng P10k . Pasalamat tayo na may 10k katao na nabigyan,” Gacal said.

On Friday, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. handed over P10 million in presidential assistance to General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao and P50 million each to South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. and Sarangani Province Governor Rogelio Pacquiao.

Pacquiao has also clarified that the City Agriculture Office provided the list of the intended beneficiaries.

“Dili nato kontrol kay kining listahan, naay listahan daan nga gikan sa City Agri. Kita naga-assist lang ta,” the mayor added.
