GenSan education, dev’t funds not fully utilized – BLGF

The city government of General Santos has not fully utilized its Special Education Fund (SEF) and the 20 percent component of the National Tax Allotment (NTA) in 2023, data from the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) showed.

In its Indicators for the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance Assessment report, the BLGF noted that the city has a budget appropriations for education sector of P412,906,252 for Fiscal Year 2023 and has recorded an actual expenditures of P142,102,451, or 34.42 percent disbursement rate.

The BLGF report also noted that the city allocated P477,051,513 of its NTA share to development projects known as the Local Development Fund (LDF), but only utilized P213,112,453 or 44.67% disbursement rate.

Sustainable Education and the Financial Administration and Sustainability areas are part of the criteria for the Seal of Good Local Governance award.

Last year, the city failed to pass the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance assessment as it also fell short in the utilization of its 20 percent local development funds.
