GenSan falls behind in disaster fund use in 2023

The city government of General Santos may have under utilized its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund in 2023, latest data from the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) showed.

In its Indicators for the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance Assessment report, the BLGF noted that the city has a budget appropriations of P107 million in 2023 for its disaster preparedness and mitigation component but has only disbursed an actual expenditures of P34 million or 31.88 percent disbursement rate.

Among the cities in the Soccsksargen area, Tacurong City tops in terms of utilizing its LDRRMF’s pre-disaster preparedness and risk reduction measures with 72.12% disbursement rate, followed by Kidapawan with 68.47%, and Koronadal City with 45.59%.

The data was validated by the BLGF Central Office and Regional Office with the local treasury offices, according to the report.

Disaster Preparedness Area is part of the criteria for the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance award.
