GenSan LGU urged to release list of El Niño aid beneficiaries

General Santos City Councilor Froebel Kan Balleque has called on the city government to release the list of beneficiaries of the P100 million-worth of El Niño aid.

Balleque made the appeal to GenSan City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao to ensure transparency in the implementation of the government program for El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk.

The opposition city lawmaker earlier exposed receiving complaints of alleged favoritism in the distribution of the El Niño assistance. There were also allegations that some village officials allowed certain unqualified individuals to receive the aid.

Earlier, GenSAn City Administrator Franklin Gacal asked Balleque to issue a public apology over his disparaging comments about the “poor fiscal management” by Mayor Pacquiao.

Balleque also clarified that he was just asking for the status of the city’s financial housekeeping measures, as he noted that the city was not included in the news of the DILG’s 2023 Good Financial Housekeeping Passers list.
