GenSan Mayor Pacquiao calls for unity during Kalilangan Festival

General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao on Tuesday led the wreath laying ceremony in honor of the city’s founder General Paulino Santos and its first settlers.

In her message, Pacquiao called on residents to learn from the experiences of the indigenous inhabitants and the settlers in rising above the challenges.

She also called for unity as the city culminates its weeklong celebration for the 35th Kalilangan and 85th Founding Anniversary.

“Sa ating pagkakaisa, ako ay naniniwala na malalampasan natin ang anumang hamon na ating haharapin,” Pacquiao said.

The mayor also said that the city owes its progress and growth to the vibrant culture and indigenous values of its early inhabitants as well as the sacrifices and hard work of its first settlers.

“Si General Paulino Santos at ang mga settlers, ang siyang inspirasyon natin sa pagsisiskap na maging maayos, matatag at maunlad tayo,” she added.

The Kalilangan Festival commemorates the landing of General Paulino Santos, along with the first settlers from Luzon, on February 27, 1939.
