GenSan Mayor Pacquiao calls for unity: ‘Huwag maging balakid, mapanira’

General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao called for unity as the city celebrates its weeklong celebration for the 35th Kalilangan and 85th Founding Anniversary.

During the opening ceremony on Friday, the mayor underscored the importance of everyone’s cooperation and collaboration for the city to move forward and achieve its aspiration.

“Ang ating lungsod ay may iba’t ibang kultura: B’laan, Muslim at Kristiyano, magkakaiba pero tayo ay iisa. Iisa sa hangaring makamit ang kaunlaran at kasaganahan para sa ating bayan,” Pacquiao said.

“Kaya huwag maging balakid, huwag maging mapanira dahil tayo ay nasa iisang bangka,” she added.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Sa Kultura at Saya, Tayo ay Sama-sama.”

Highlights of the weeklong activities to include Agri Fair, Mr. and Ms. Teen GenSan competition, Parada ng Lahi, Kapehan sa Kalilangan, Kadsagayan streetdancing competition, and the closing ceremonies on February 27.

The festival commemorates the landing of the city’s founder, General Paulino Santos, along with the first settlers from Luzon, on February 27, 1939.

Mayor Pacquiao also has invited everyone to come and celebrate the grandest and most popular festival of General Santos City – the Tuna Capital of the Philippines and the Home of the Champions.

“Atin pong inaanyayahan ang lahat na makisaya sa selebrasyon ng ating Kalilangan Festival,” the mayor said.
