GenSan Vice Mayor Nuñez worried about over drop in reading habit among youth

General Santos City Vice Mayor Rosalita Nuñez has expressed concern over the decline in book-reading habits, especially among the young people in General Santos City.

The vice mayor called upon the Department of Education (DepEd) to strengthen its programs to inculcate the practice of reading among learners, adding that students must be encouraged to look at reading as a fun activity rather than a chore.

Nuñez, a vocal advocate for the power of reading, wanted also to improve the capabilities of the General Santos City Library, as part of her pursuit to strengthen reading readiness for children in the barangays.

Meanwhile, DepEd-GenSan Division Superintendent Mervie Seblos assured the vice mayor that her office will work closely with the Office of the Vice Mayor and the Sangguniang Panlungsod to strengthen and expand remedial reading programs for students in the city.
