Gonzaga admin distributes rice, flour to Muslim communities in Davao de Oro

The Davao de Oro government under the leadership of Governor Dorothy M. Gonzaga has distributed sacks of rice and flour to the various Muslim communities in the province.

A total of 295 sacks of rice and 185 sacks of flour was given to the Muslim residents in Districts 1 and II on April 3-4 as part of the celebration of Ramadan, the provincial government said.

In addition, 110 sacks of flour were also distributed Tuesday, April 9, bringing to a total of 295 sacks of flour as assistance to the Muslim communities, it said.

Muslim Community Development Program Coordinator Rashid Ocusan said the province has around 5,700 Muslim families with most of them living in the coastal towns of Maco, Mabini, and Pantukan, among others.

He said the provincial government also granted the request of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Montevista District Jail for the provision of food items such as rice, flour, chicken and beef meat, fish, spices, and other Halal foods, for the Muslim PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) who also observed the Ramadan.

The Filipino Muslims celebrated Eid’l Fitr or Feast of Ramadan Wednesday, April 10.
