Gov Gonzaga graces launching of Davao Gulf Divers Marine Park

Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy P. Montejo-Gonzaga has joined the Davao Gulf Divers organization in launching the Davao Gulf Divers Marine Park at Kopiat Island in Mabini town.

The seven-hectare marine park is a protected area located on the western side of Kopiat Island, home to 61 coral nursery trees and serving as a safe haven for marine animals such as corals, fish, and others, the provincial government said.

“This is the largest coral restoration project in Davao Gulf, intending to establish it as a future research hotspot, an eco-tourism location, and a source of corals to rehabilitate damaged reefs around the entire Davao Gulf,” it said.

Also present in the activity were Davao de Oro 2nd District Congressman Ruwel Peter Gonzaga and Mabini Mayor Emerson Luego.

Gonzaga and the other officials signified their support for the organization as the government aimed to restore the marine ecosystem, thereby contributing to marine life conservation.
