Gov. Jim Salliman signs MOU with BPDA for proposed Basilan Airport Development Project

Gov. Jim Salliman has taken a significant step towards advancing infrastructure in Basilan by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) on May 15, 2024. This MOU focuses on conducting a feasibility study for the proposed Basilan Airport Development Project. The signing ceremony was held at the Marcian Hotel, Palacio del Sur.

The event saw representation from several key officials, including Ms. Kycylynn Paraiso, who stood in for Attorney Paisalin Tago of the MOTC BARMM. Other notable attendees were Sanga-Sanga Airport Manager Engr. Mohajarin Ali from BPDA, Vice Governor Yusop Alano, Lamitan Mayor Oric Furigay, Akbar Mayor Alih Sali, BM Nash Salain, BM Jay Hataman Salliman, Engr. Nelson Akmadol, Head of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), and Engr. Arnold Yap, the City Planning and Development Officer (CPDO) of Lamitan.

The MOU signifies a major collaborative effort to evaluate the feasibility of the airport project, with all parties committed to a comprehensive assessment. This project aims to lay the groundwork for informed decision-making and to foster sustainable development within the province, highlighting a unified approach to enhancing local infrastructure.
