Gov. Niño Uy Supports Initiative for Cave Protection and Tourism in Davao Oriental

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), represented by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), convened with Governor Niño Uy at the Capitol. The purpose of the meeting was to explore the suggestion of conducting Basic Caving Training in Davao Oriental, aiming to enhance knowledge on cave protection and systematic documentation, as well as conservation of their resources.

The comprehensive training is envisioned to equip participants with valuable insights into the scientific study of caves and methods for their protection. Additionally, it aims to lay the groundwork for promoting cave tourism in Davao Oriental, thereby contributing to the province’s tourism industry.

Governor Uy warmly embraced the suggestion and expressed willingness to support the initiative, recognizing its potential to safeguard the caves and preserve nature in general. As the province endeavors to bolster its tourism sector, Governor Uy sees cave tourism as a promising addition to the array of attractions available to visitors.

Since assuming office, Governor Uy has been committed to strengthening the tourism sector, recognizing its significance as a key economic driver in Davao Oriental. Currently, efforts are underway to repair and rehabilitate various tourism eco-parks in preparation for the province’s grand tourism launch.
