Gov Oaminal wants Misamis Occidental to be ‘home of sports champions’

Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal is eyeing to make the province a “home of sports champions.”

This, as Misamis Occidental Division delegates became the overall champion during the first ever One Asenso Misamis Occidental Palaro 2024, which took place on February 7-11.

The division delegates bagged a total of 170 gold, 119 silver, and 145 bronze medals, securing their victory, receiving a cash prize of P100,000.00, the provincial government said.

Ranking the overall scores of both Secondary and Elementary categories, the following divisions earned recognition: Tangub City Division as first runner-up with a cash prize of P80,000.00; Ozamiz City Division as second runner-up with a cash prize of P50,000.00; and Oroquieta City Division as third runner-up, receiving a cash prize of P30,000.00.

The provincial government said Oaminal aims to create a stronger Misamis Occidental contingent by converging the skills and resources of young athletes from the four divisions of the province as one team.

“He hopes this will result in more medals and make Misamis Occidental a home of sports champions,” it said.
