Gov Salliman cites resilience, dedication of Sumisip people as town marks 50th founding anniversary

Basilan Governor Jim Salliman has commended the resilience and dedication of the people of Sumisip as the municipality celebrated its 50th founding anniversary.

“As we reflect on our journey, let us acknowledge the challenges we’ve overcome, the successes we’ve achieved, and the unity that has strengthened us along the way,” Salliman said during the celebration Sunday, April 14.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos was the keynote speaker during the event.

Salliman, a former mayor of Sumisip, recalled tha challenges and battles that his administration faced.

“From humble beginnings, we showed dedication to changing the lives of our people. Under my leadership then, and with the help of our local officials, we fought every challenge and planted the seeds of faith and resilience,” he said.

Now that he is the governor of the province, Salliman said he carried with him the wisdom gained from his efforts in Sumisip.

He rallied the people of Sumisip to cherish the past successes. The governor also urged them to look to the future with hope and determination, and reaffirm their dedication to building a brighter future for all residents of Basilan.
