Gov Salliman thanks security forces for peaceful Holy Week observance in Basilan

Basilan Governor Jim Salliman has expressed his gratitude to the entire security forces for the peaceful observance of Holy Week by the Catholic faithful in the province.

He noted that no crime incidents were recorded during the Lenten Week that started on Palm Sunday, March 24, and ended on Easter Sunday, March 31.

However, the governor urged the security agencies, such as the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, to continue to boost their security measures in the province as the Muslims are still observing the holy month of Ramadan.

The fasting month of Ramadan is expected to end on the second week of April, when the Muslim world celebrates the Eid’l Fitr or Hariraya Puasa.

Salliman expressed hope that the generally peaceful situation in the province remains until Eid and beyond.

He asked all Basileños— Muslims, Christians and Lumad— to stay vigilant and cooperate with the authorities in the maintenance of peace and order in the province.
