Gov Tan thanks World Bank for supporting agri projects in Sulu

Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan has expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for continuously funding agriculture and fishery projects in the province.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR)-led Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) recently conducted a five-day workshop to update the Provincial Commodity Investment Plan (PCIP) of Sulu in a hotel in Zamboanga City. World Bank supports PRDP.

The governor said the workshop aimed to sustain what they had started to uplift the condition of the fisherfolk and farmers in the province.

“As you have known, 70 percent of our livelihood is on agri-fishery. If you check on the poverty incidence of the province, the lowest income is from these sectors, so concentrating on this program will eventually decrease the province’s poverty situation,” Tan explained.

The PRDP is a six-year national project, which aims to establish a modern, value chain-oriented, and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries sector.

In partnership with local government units (LGUs) and the private sector, the project provides key infrastructure facilities, technology, and information to raise incomes, productivity, and competitiveness in targeted areas.
