Gov Yu hails neutralization of NPA leader in Zamboanga del Sur

Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor J. Yu has commended the Philippine Army for the neutralization of an alleged notorious leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in an encounter in Barangay Malagalad, Dumingag town.

Aprecia Rosete, alias Bamban, was killed in a joint operation of the 102nd Infantry Brigade and 53rd Infantry Battalion on Tuesday, February 27.

“This operation is a resounding success of the government in our efforts to end local communist armed conflict,” Yu said in a statement.

He said the death of an NPA leader was also a clear manifestation that the govenrment troops are serious in their mandate to pursue those who wage the longest running insurgencies in the country and responsible for “ruthless killings and atrocities.”

The governor urged the remaining rebels to surrender and return to the fold of the law so that genuine and lasting development in rural areas will be attained.

“Our government now has various livelihood programs and assistance for them once they surrender,” the official added.
