Home for the aged proposed in General Santos

The city council of General Santos City is scheduled to conduct a joint committee hearing this week on the proposed ordinance seeking the establishment of a home for the aged in the city.

City Councilor Jose Orlando Acharon has pushed for the passage of the measure that seeks to provide temporary residential care, protection, and safety to elderly individuals in the city, particularly the indigent, victims of abuse or those abandoned or neglected by their families.

“This ordinance aims to establish the city of General Santos home for the aged with necessary amenities and programs to address the needs of the elderly,” the politiko explained.

Under the measure, the home for the aged would be staffed with social workers as well as health and administrative personnel trained on senior citizen care.

Services that would be provided in the home would include medical, spiritual, recreational, and dietary as well as other basic necessities.

“The amount needed for the implementation of this Ordinance shall be charged against the appropriation of the CSWDO for the operating expenses and maintenance,” the proposed ordinance stated.
