Isabela City Mayor Akbar to use all resources for peaceful Cocowayan Festival

An interagency task force has started preparing to ensure the security of the thousands of people who are expected to participate in the series of events in line with the Arriba Isabela! Cocowayan Festival in Basilan later this month.

Isabela City Mayor Al-Qaid Akbar has reiterated that his primary concern is to ensure the safety and security of all Isabeleños and revelers who will be in town to witness or join in the array of activities, civic programs and cultural events.

“Members of the Joint Internal Defense Task Force Isabela City (#TaskForceIsabela) will deploy all available resources to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration and conduct of all the events in the city,” the city government said Tuesday.

The following are the schedule of activities:

April 20-25: Arriba Isabela! Cocowayan Festival
April 19-23: Basilan City High School and Basilan National High School Grand Alumni Homecoming
April 23-24: 1st Isabela City Business Conference
April 12-24: Olympiada Isabela MMXVIII
April 23: Miss Isabela City 2018

“An expected huge influx of returning alumni, balikbayans, vacationing college students and local tourists are expected to flood into the city as these big events commence in the next few days,” Isabela City government said.

Akbar urged the residents to be vigilant and cooperate with the authorities to ensure the safety of everyone.

Basilan is a known hotbed of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group. #
