Lagare: No phaseout of traditional tricycles in GenSan

The city government of General Santos is not planning to phase out traditional tricycles-for-hire.

Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation chairperson Dominador Lagare, Jr. clarified that the city government only intends to modernize and upgrade existing tricycles.

“Mawawala ba ang tricycles dito sa General Santos City? The reply was very emphatic, hindi mawawala and the reason is because there are those, kasamahan pa natin who are spreading fake news Mr. President, that we are going to phase out tricycles, which is not true,” Lagare explained during the council’s 87th regular session on Tuesday.

“In fact, there was a resolution passed by one of our colleagues here that the conventional tricycles will be retained… I just want to make it clear Mr President, we will not be phasing out tricycles, kanang three-wheelers, what we want is to upgrade them, modernize our tricycles here. After all, we are highly urbanized city,” Lagare added.

Lagare made the clarification after another councilor claimed
the administration of Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao is bent on banning traditional tricycles to be replaced with “modern” electric tricycles or E-trikes.
