Mango processing plant to rise in Cotabato – LGU

The Cotabato government, under the leadership of Governor Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza, has conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of a mango processing plant in the province.

The Philippine Rural Development Project of the Department of Agriculture will provide P35 million for the project, the provincial government said.

Meanwhile, the local government of Midsayap, where the plant will be set up, will earmark P5 million as equity. The Cotabato Mango Producers Cooperative will allot P7 million as cash and non-cash equity.

Once the project is completed, the provincial government said it is expected to process 600 kilos of raw mangoes.

The cooperative, with 57 members from the towns of Pigcawayan, Libungan, Alamada, Aleosan, Pikit, Kabacan, Matalam, Mlang, and Midsayap, will benefit from the initiative.

Maybel Lynell Calungsod from the Provincial MSME Development Council represented Mendoza during the recent groundbreaking of the plant.

Citing the 2023 Philippine Statistics Office data, the provincial government said Cotabato ranked 3rd in mango volume production, with 41,308 metric tons of harvests, and top 1 in area planted with mango trees (4,511 hectares).
