Mati City Council orders 15-day suspension of Councilor Campos

The Mati City Council has ordered the suspension of City Councilor Xenna Princess Campos for her refusal to sign three corrected Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) resolutions passed when she was the presiding officer.

This was contained in a resolution adopting the decision submitted by the Committee on Rules and Privileges and the Committee on Good Government, Public Ethics and Accountabilities over the alleged disorderly behavior committed by Campos during the coordination meeting last Feb. 3 and for her refusal “without valid excuse to perform a task assigned to her,” the city government said.

The City Council ordered Campos’ suspension for 15 days without remuneration based on Section 1, No. 8, Rule XVIII of the Internal Rules and Procedures of the 7th City Council of the City of Mati.

Vice Mayor Enzo Rabat said that Campos’ refusal to affix her signature has affected the obligation of the local government to pay the landowners of the three land properties it purchased.

The controversy stemmed from the three SP resolutions passed on Dec. 20, 2022 which authorized Mayor Michelle Rabat to sign for and in behalf of the city government the conditional deed of sale with three landowners.
