May umuutang para sa ‘yo: Oaminal seeks House probe on SSS irregular loan transactions

A lawmaker from Mindanao has filed a resolution seeking a congressional probe into the proliferation of irregular and fraudulent loan transactions in the Social Security System (SSS).

In House Resolution 1634, Misamis Occidental Rep. Sancho Fernando Oaminal said the fraudulent transactions involve calamity and salary loans “without the knowledge and consent of members in whose name such loan transactions are initiated.”

“Despite reports of these incidents by various customers to SSS, including the filing of the pertinent dispute and/or complaint, members are nonetheless asked to pay for such irregular and fraudulent loan transactions.”

“The members attribute these irregular and fraudulent transactions as a consequence of hacking, lax verification procedures, and inside job in the SSS, among others,” the resolution read.

SSS is a government institution tasked to “promote social justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden,” according to the resolution.
