Mayor Abeth Matugas Boosts Honorarium for Barangay Health Workers, Emphasizes Community Well-being

In a significant move to strengthen local health initiatives, Mayor Elizabeth T. Matugas convened a meeting with Barangay Health Workers (BHW) from all 29 barangays of the municipality, announcing an increase in their monthly honorarium to PHP 1,000.

This decision underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare and acknowledgment of BHWs, who play a pivotal role in grassroots healthcare delivery. Mayor Matugas expressed regret for not addressing the issue of their low honorarium sooner, highlighting the essential services these workers provide to the community.

The meeting saw the participation of department heads from various sectors, including the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Tourism, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and Agriculture. These leaders engaged in discussions centered on community well-being, demonstrating a multi-sectoral approach to health and welfare.

Vice-Mayor Gerry M. Abejo, Administrator Ms. Felicitas M. Gonzales, several barangay captains, and personnel from the Rural Health Unit (RHU), represented by Ms. Myrna Catulay and Mr. Melvin T. Comahig, also graced the event. Their presence and participation signified the broad support for the initiative across various levels of local governance.

In a gesture of appreciation and support, Mayor Matugas concluded the meeting by distributing 5 kilos of jasmine rice to each BHW attendee, further highlighting the administration’s gratitude for their dedication and service.
