Mayor Abeth Matugas Conducts Sea Trial for New Rescue Boat in Samal Island

Mayor Abeth Matugas, accompanied by members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) and other key officials, personally oversaw a sea trial earlier today for the S/B Dapa Speedboat, also known as the Rescue Boat, equipped with two engines each boasting 250 HP. The trial, which took place in Samal Island, marks a significant milestone in bolstering the emergency response capabilities of Dapa, a municipality in Davao.

The initiative, driven by the Mayor and supported by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), aims to fortify Dapa’s capacity to respond effectively to maritime emergencies and ensure the safety of its residents and visitors. The acquisition of the S/B Dapa represents a strategic investment in enhancing the municipality’s readiness to address emergencies at sea.

“Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the MDRRMC Chairperson, Hon. Mayor Elizabeth T. Matugas, Dapa will soon welcome its newest sea asset, the S/B Dapa,” stated Ms. Irrah Mae Sildora, LDRRMO of Dapa. “This rescue boat will play a crucial role in strengthening our emergency response infrastructure and enabling us to swiftly and efficiently address maritime incidents.”

With its robust design and powerful engines, the S/B Dapa is poised to become an invaluable resource in conducting search and rescue operations, responding to maritime accidents, and providing assistance during natural disasters such as typhoons and storms. The vessel’s capabilities are expected to enhance Dapa’s ability to navigate and mitigate risks in coastal areas, contributing to the overall safety and well-being of the community.

The successful sea trial represents a significant step forward in the implementation of Dapa’s disaster risk reduction and management strategies. As the municipality continues to prioritize investments in critical infrastructure and equipment, such as the S/B Dapa, it reaffirms its commitment to building resilience and fostering a culture of safety among its residents.

As Dapa prepares to integrate the S/B Dapa into its emergency response framework, anticipation builds within the community, signaling a newfound sense of preparedness and confidence in facing maritime challenges. The addition of this rescue boat exemplifies the municipality’s proactive stance towards disaster resilience and underscores its determination to uphold the highest standards of emergency response and public safety.
