Mayor Cagas turns over hybrid rice seeds to Digos City farmers

The Digos City government, under the leadership of Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas, has facilitated the two-day distribution of hybrid rice seeds in two barangays.

The local government said the Office of the City Agriculturist handled the distribution of assistance.

A total of 846 farmers from Barangay Igpit and Barangay Ruparan received the seed discount vouchers of the Department of Agriculture XI.

Around P5.36-million worth of seed vouchers was allotted to Digos City which covered a total area of 1,073 hectares of rice farms.

Among the beneficiaries were the members of San Agustin Ruparan Brgy. Irrigation Dev’t Association, Matti Irrigators Service Association Incorporated, San Miguel Irrigators Association, United Sinayawan, San Isidro Rice and Vegetable Farmers Association, Colorado Rice Farmers Association, Santo Tomas San Vicente Igpit Irrigators Farmers Association, and Igpit Communal Irrigators Farmers Association.

“LGU Digos will provide Fertilizer Assistance next year as counterpart to the DA’s rice program,” said Cagas, who was present during the activity on Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15.
