Mayor Constantino welcomes Frasco in launching tourism program in Sarangani

The Sarangani government, under the leadership of Governor Rogelio D. Pacquiao, has welcomed Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco in the province to launch a regional tourism program.

Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino and Board Member Joseph Calanao, representing Pacquiao, joined Frasco in the launching of the SOCCSKSARGEN Philippine Experience Program (PEP) at the Center for Community Transformation (CCT) in Malungon on Wednesday, June 5.

During the event, the Provincial Information Office (PIO) said women from the Blaan tribe showed the intricate art of weaving Gintlo, a traditional fabric made from cotton thread.

Gintlo, known for its vibrant patterns, is integral to Blaan culture and is crafted into clothing items such as tubular skirts, shawls, and scarves for men.

The live demonstration highlighted the skill and artistry involved in preserving this age-old tradition popularly done in Lamlifew School of Living Tradition in Malungon.

In her message, the PIO said Frasco underscored the importance of spreading development and tourism opportunities across the country.

“There is a necessity of ensuring that we spread development across our province, now across the Philippines, in order to open up opportunities for tourism livelihood and employment,” Frasco said.

The PEP aims to promote sustainable tourism by immersing visitors in local cultures and traditions, thereby fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse Filipino heritage.
