Mayor Dalipe leads kick off program for Zamboanga City’s bird festival

Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe has led the opening program of the Dia de Zamboanga Bird Festival.

The activity with a photo exhibit and symposium aimed to showcase the city’s cultural and natural heritage, focusing on environmental stewardship and the diverse local bird species, the city government said.

In his message during the program held at the Zamboanga State College Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) AVRC Campus A in Rio Hondo, Dalipe urged participants to have deeper appreciation for bird diversity and a renewed sense of responsibility to protect and preserve the natural treasures that make Zamboanga truly special.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an “inclusive and sustainable city that values its relationship with the environment.”

The Bird Festival runs from Feb. 19 to 20 and forms part of the annual activities leading to the Dia de Zamboanga celebration on Feb. 26.

It is a collaborative effort of the city government through the City Tourism Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-9), ZSCMST, Western Mindanao State University (ZSCMST), and Zamboanga Bird Club.

The two-day festival draws bird enthusiasts to the city’s bird sanctuaries to include the Great Sta. Cruz Island, ZSCMST bird sanctuary, Pasonanca Natural Park, WMSU Experimental Forest area, and barangay La Paz, among others.
