Mayor Dalipe leads opening of new sanitary landfill in Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe has spearheaded the unveiling of the newly-completed cell number 3 of the sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan.

The operation of cell 3 will pave the way for the total closure of cell number 2, which opened in 2020, and is now filled to capacity, Dalipe said.

Quoting the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), the city government said cell number 3 has a life span of three years with an average of 200 tons of residual waste being dumped per day.

The project costs a total of P99.94 million and was undertaken by a private contractor. The scope of work included the landfill cell/ waste retaining facility; liner facility; leacheate collection facility; other components like gas extraction well and ground water monitoring well and other structures such as line canal, under drain canal, retaining wall structure and 5 cu.m/day waste water treatment plant.

Also present in the event held Sunday, April 21, were Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja SK National President and Youth Commissioner CJ Dalipe and Councilors Jimmy Villaflores, Vino Guingona, James Siason and Jordan Evangelista, and other local government officials.
