Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II has led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Huy-anan nan Bajau settlement development in the city.

The initiation of site development for Surigao City Ecovillage recently marked a crucial milestone in addressing the needs of the Sama-Bajau community, the city Public Information Office (PIO) said.

“The initial phase, encompassing vital roadworks and infrastructure, aims to provide access to the resettlement site, which spans 2.13 hectares. Upon completion, the site will feature 40 stilted settlement structures equipped with amenities tailored to meet the socio-cultural and sanitary requirements of the community,” it said.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at Sitio Panubigon in Brgy. Lipata.

Also present in the event were Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra, and Governor Robert Lyndon S. Barbers.

The ceremony underscored the collaborative effort of various entities including the UN-Habitat, Provincial Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, and other partners.
