Mayor Elizabeth Matugas Leads Dapa in Major Blood Donation Initiative

Mayor Elizabeth T. Matugas of Dapa was at the forefront as the Rural Health Unit (RHU) received a prestigious Plaque of Recognition during the recent Stakeholders’ Meeting and Awarding Ceremony, organized by the Caraga Regional Hospital Blood Bank and the National Voluntary Blood Services Program. Held under the theme “Give Blood and Keep the World Beating,” the event highlighted the Mayor’s exceptional leadership in promoting public health initiatives, particularly in ensuring an adequate and safe blood supply during emergencies. Under Mayor Matugas’ administration, the RHU achieved impressive milestones, including the collection of 307 blood bags and conducting six mass blood donation events, which resulted in 545 units of blood being supplied to the community of Dapa. The ceremony also recognized various individuals and entities for their contributions to the region’s blood donation efforts. Among the awardees were Dr. Billie Airish D. Baula and Hannah Thea T. Garcia, RMT, both named “Outstanding Blood Advocates.” Additionally, notable public servants such as Hon. Marlon M. Coro and Christine B. Dones received awards for their dedication to blood donation. The event further celebrated the contributions of Mr. Melvin Noel Comahig, RN, and Ms. Maridel V. Espenido, RN, who received the “Blood Galloner’s Award” for their significant blood donations. PhilHealth Siargao, SIARELCO, Siargao Island Institute of Technology, BJMP, and the Cloud 9 Siargao Eagles Club were acknowledged for their advocacy of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.
